ABOUT

I am an artist, based in East Sussex.

Making is central to my work (and life), along with make believe and telling stories. I use anything that comes to hand; cardboard, Lego, fabric. I make a lot of things with clay but I don’t consider myself a ceramicist. That would imply that I have skills and knowledge beyond the basics and lead me back to the O level, perfectionist inner me, the me that I’m trying to escape from.

This might explain why folk art is the biggest influence on my work. It represents everything that 0 level art does not; joy, inclusivity, spontaneity, rawness, mystery, death, love and sex...

I have learned far more about life, the world and humanity through studying folk art than from watching the news and the things I make are a result of this.

I asked a friend to help me write this.

He said “you like the thingness of things!”

I’ve no idea what he meant, but he’s right.
